Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 5, 2026

Closet Crush ("we," "us," or "our") operates bonvoyeur.net. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have regarding your data.

By using Closet Crush, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and password. Your password is securely hashed and never stored in plain text. You may optionally provide a display name, bio, and avatar.

Closet Data

You provide information about your clothing items, including names, brands, categories, colors, fit descriptions, purchase prices, retail prices, purchase dates, product URLs, notes, and photos. You may also create outfits, packing lists, and log when you wear items.

Forwarded Email Receipts

When you forward purchase receipts to your unique Closet Crush email address, we process the email content to extract clothing item details (name, brand, price, image). The raw email content is not stored after processing — only the extracted item data is saved to your pending inbox for your review.

Photos and Images

You may upload photos of clothing items and outfits. These images are stored securely and are only visible according to your profile visibility settings. We may process uploaded images for background removal to improve image quality.

Usage Data

We collect wear logs (when you record wearing an item), outfit logs, and interaction data (likes, follows, offers) to power analytics and recommendations. We do not use third-party analytics or tracking services. We do not place advertising or retargeting cookies.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Closet Crush service
  • Generate closet analytics including closet value, cost per wear, and wear frequency insights
  • Power AI-driven outfit recommendations based on your closet, wear history, and weather
  • Parse forwarded email receipts to automatically extract and catalog your purchases
  • Enable social features including public profiles, follows, likes, and marketplace listings
  • Generate packing list suggestions based on your closet and trip details
  • Send transactional emails (account invitations, password resets)
  • Moderate content for safety and appropriateness

3. AI & Automated Processing

Closet Crush uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to power several features of the service. We believe in being transparent about where and how AI is used.

How We Use AI

  • Outfit recommendations — We analyze your closet, wear history, style preferences, and local weather to suggest daily outfit ideas.
  • Email receipt parsing — When you forward a purchase receipt, AI extracts item details (name, brand, price, image) from the email content.
  • Outfit photo analysis — When you upload an outfit photo, AI identifies the clothing pieces in the image and matches them to items in your closet.
  • Product URL extraction — When you paste a product link, AI extracts item metadata (name, brand, color, category) from the web page.
  • Packing list generation — AI suggests packing lists based on your closet, trip details, and destination weather.
  • Inspiration analysis — When you save an outfit inspiration link or screenshot, AI identifies the individual clothing pieces in the image and creates wishlist entries.
  • Calendar planning — When you plan outfits on the calendar, your planned dates and outfit selections are stored. Past planned outfits may be auto-logged as worn.
  • Style insights — AI analyzes your closet and wear patterns to generate personalized style observations.
  • Background removal — Image processing to isolate clothing items in photos runs locally on your device and does not send data to any external service.
  • Content moderation — AI may be used to detect content that violates our Terms of Service.

What Data Is Processed by AI

When AI features are used, the minimum data necessary is sent to our AI service provider for processing. This may include item metadata (names, brands, categories, colors), photos, receipt content, and product page content. Our AI provider is contractually prohibited from using your data to train their models. AI-generated results (recommendations, extracted data) are stored in your account; raw inputs are not retained by the AI provider after processing.

No Automated Decision-Making

AI features are used to provide suggestions and assistance only. No automated decisions are made that produce legal effects or similarly significantly affect you. You always have the final say — recommendations can be ignored, extracted data can be edited or discarded, and all AI-generated content is presented for your review before being saved.

4. Location Data

If you grant permission via your browser or device settings, we collect your approximate location to provide the following features:

  • Weather display — We use your location to fetch current weather conditions and forecasts from our weather data provider and display them in the app.
  • Weather-aware recommendations — Your local weather is factored into outfit recommendations so suggestions are seasonally and temperature-appropriate.

Only your approximate coordinates are sent to our weather data provider to retrieve forecasts. No user identification data, account information, or personal details are shared with the weather provider. Your location is not stored on our servers, tracked over time, or shared with any other third party.

Location access is entirely optional. If you decline or revoke location permissions, weather-related features will be unavailable but all other features of Closet Crush will continue to work normally. You can change your location permissions at any time in your browser or device settings.

5. Service Providers

We work with third-party service providers to operate Closet Crush. These providers are only given the minimum data necessary to perform their function and are contractually bound to protect your data. Our providers fall into the following categories:

Database, Authentication & Storage Provider

All user data, including account information, closet data, and uploaded images, is stored with our database provider. Data is protected by row-level security policies ensuring users can only access their own data. Authentication (login sessions, password management) is handled securely by this provider.

AI Processing Provider

We use an AI service provider to power the features described in the AI & Automated Processing section above. Item metadata, receipt content, and photos may be sent for processing. Our provider does not use your data to train their models and does not retain inputs after processing is complete.

Email Processing Provider

Email receipt forwarding is powered by an email service provider. When you forward a receipt to your unique address, the provider routes the email to our servers for processing. We also use this provider for transactional emails such as account invitations and password resets.

Weather Data Provider

We use a weather API to fetch forecasts for outfit recommendations and packing list suggestions. Only location coordinates are sent. No user identification data is shared with this provider.

Hosting Provider

Our application is hosted by a cloud hosting provider. Standard server access logs (such as IP addresses and request timestamps) may be generated as part of normal web hosting operations.

We do not sell your data to any third party. We do not share your data with advertising networks, data brokers, or analytics providers. Data is only shared with the service providers listed above to the extent necessary to operate the features you use.

6. Profile Visibility & Data Sharing Between Users

You control who can see your closet through your profile visibility setting:

  • Public — Your display name, avatar, bio, and closet items (except hidden items) are visible to all Closet Crush users.
  • Followers Only — Only users you approve as followers can view your closet. Your profile appears in discovery but content is locked until approved.
  • Private — Only you can see your closet. Your profile does not appear in discovery or search.

Regardless of your visibility setting, you can hide individual items from public view. The following data is never shared publicly: email address, purchase prices, wear logs, cost-per-wear analytics, notes, and auto-hide category preferences.

If you list an item for sale or swap on the marketplace, that item's basic details (name, image, brand, asking price) become visible to other users regardless of your profile visibility setting, as listing is an explicit opt-in to marketplace participation.

7. Cookies & Local Storage

Closet Crush uses only essential cookies for authentication (maintaining your login session). We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or cross-site tracking cookies.

We use browser session storage (cleared when you close your browser) to cache outfit recommendations for performance. No personally identifiable information is stored in local or session storage beyond your authenticated session.

8. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your data, including:

  • Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms (never stored in plain text)
  • All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS encryption
  • Database access is protected by row-level security policies ensuring users can only access their own data
  • Server-side API keys and secrets are never exposed to the client
  • Image storage uses per-user folder isolation

While we strive to protect your information, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual items, outfits, wear logs, and packing lists at any time. Archived items are retained but hidden from active views.

Forwarded email receipt content is processed in real-time and not stored after item extraction is complete. Only the extracted item data and a message ID (for deduplication) are retained.

If you wish to delete your account and all associated data, please contact us at the email address below.

10. Children's Privacy

Closet Crush is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete that information.

11. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Object to or restrict certain processing of your data
  • Withdraw consent at any time (where processing is based on consent)

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the information below.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of Closet Crush after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
